It is incredible to realize how so many individuals are now sharing this mystical journey and although we have been on this route all of our lives, there are countless individuals that are now focused on this ongoing process. An opposition is an aspect between two planets or significant points in the Natal chart. The opposition in a Birth chart can also be activated through transit or progression. An opposition is defined as two planets or significant angles (the midheaven or the ascendant) forming an angle of 180 degrees from each other. The normal orb for an opposition to be active in a Birth chart is 8-10 degrees + or – the 180 degrees. Therefore, if a planet is 170-190 degrees from another planet or an important angle, it is termed an opposition. To describe an opposition you would take into consideration the two opposing forces described by the planets/angles as well as the house placement where the planets are located. The house placement would define the areas of life involved. For example, Saturn in the third house (the house communication) would create a difficult time for the individual to express their views--being held back. At the opposite end of the example, if you had Pluto in the ninth house (the house of higher learning), Pluto acts as a disruptive force and may even lead to power struggles or ego interference. With these opposing forces, there may be difficulties expressing oneself due to ego interference and a challenge to take charge or outdo others. This could revert to a power struggle and could either surface as restrictive behaviours and a feeling of being subdued or angered when defining oneself, or pushing yourself beyond the normally accepted lines of communication and forcing one’s opinions on others. This could also surface as schooling issues as the ninth house deals with higher education. In many cases, oppositions deal with open confrontations where one’s views or beliefs are being challenged by someone else’s opinion. This can lead to ego interference and clinging strongly to one’s beliefs or opinions. This individual would not lend an open mind to hear and utilize another individual’s opinion. If for example the ninth house had Mars in opposition to Pluto in the third this could lead to arguments or even physical exchanges during these tumultuous confrontations. Oppositions tend to draw attention to the opposite area of focus. An example of this might be if the fourth and tenth houses were in opposition through planetary links, it may surface as an issue between spending too much energy at work or at home and one or the other not getting its needed consideration. This individual would favour the occupation and their earnings over the needs of the home and family. Confrontations and opposing views are often by-products of the opposition especially when a transiting planet opposes a Natal planet. When we learn to work with our oppositions, we can gain strength from these opposing views and we can mold the two together making them work as one, rather than against each other. Within the Natal chart, an opposition can create a war within oneself that has to be worked out and rectified. Oppositions build inner strength when you learn to deal with the difficulty and challenges associated with the house placement and the planetary energies. Oppositions are considered stressful aspects and need to be approached with gentle understanding and an openness to learn and be open to opposing views. There are many born into this life with health conditions--physical, mental or both. Why are these individuals saddled with these conditions? It is difficult to understand the why behind these situations. There are those that believe it is Karma carried forward from a past incarnation. There are others that believe the soul has asked for these conditions to excel its growth dealing with these challenging experiences. Whatever the reason, these individuals deserve our compassion and respect for living under these extreme conditions in order to achieve or live out their lives to facilitate enlightenment or exchange. Why do we experience these conditions and what is the purpose? It is believed that when we are confronted with life issues and do not deal with them appropriately, we are faced with similar conditions again and again until we make the necessary adjustments in our lives in order to move forward. It is also believed that if we choose to ignore these life lessons (which are often focused around forgiveness, letting go or making required changes), minor illnesses or even more serious ailments will be manifested from our body’s reaction to the mental strain we are choosing to bury. Exterior stressful conditions in our life are often reflections of inner turmoil. It is important to face these issues head-on and with honestly in order to deal with them appropriately. Often a simple change of attitude is all that is required although there are times when something more sweeping is needed, such as forgiveness or letting go. You may need to offer forgiveness to others, and at other times, you may need to offer forgiveness to self. Letting go is often a difficult learning experience especially after a loved one passes on. We hold on dearly to what was and have a very challenging time letting go. Reality can be very painful at times, but ultimately must be acknowledged and accepted before we can move on with our lives. We all experience turmoil, but we must never own it. Forgive and find love again in these moments of sadness and despair. It is always comforting to know that we are not alone and that countless others have experienced similar incidents in their lives. When we function through love, compassion and forgiveness are often by-products. Love is unfailing and it can be found within each of us. In 2014, the Sun moves into the sign of Leo on July 23. This post will apply to those individuals that either have their Sun sign in Leo, their Rising (Ascendant) sign in Leo or have an emphasis in the fifth house. (The fifth house varies a little in that although Leo rules this house some of the stronger character traits associated with this house have to do with children, romance, creative talents and recreational pleasure. Leo individuals can identify with the child within when relating to children.) As far as romance goes, in general, most Leo individuals give everything when in love, but need a partner that they can look up to. It can be very heartbreaking when family members are experiencing stressful times. Gentle assistance or a soft touch is just what is required and can help them during these trying times. We all go through difficulties and experience them in our own manner. We learn to adjust and make changes to our life so we can help alleviate the pressure from life’s sometimes stormy conditions. Through life’s events, we learn understanding and can offer assistance to others in their times of need. As life progresses, we become proficient at handling many of life’s events and can be relied on to come up with solutions that have been overlooked by our companions. Some people become very wrapped up in their personal situations, so much so that they become blind to solutions. Sometimes the answer is right in front of them, but they simply do not see it. These are very usual questions. Yes, we do have extraordinary experiences from time to time and at times these events challenge us to move in an alternate direction. Sometimes they awaken us to new avenues of experience and expression. Life can be very rewarding and it can also be very repetitive. We become so accustomed to our everyday routine that we sometimes forget we are more than just organic matter. We must remind ourselves that we are spiritual beings living a human existence. Many of us although we believe that there is a higher purpose and feel connected to a greater whole, we forget and for some do not recognize that there is a spiritual being that resides within. We contemplate such as possibility but have difficulty fathoming such a thought. Opening the door to your inner reality and allowing that potential to become real without judgement can unlock a channel to assist in getting in touch with this connection. Through self-study and acceptance as well as meditation practice, we can appreciate this spiritual association (although it constantly exists even when we are unaware of it). We are spiritual beings living in an earthly existence because there are valuable lessons that can promote growth that are only attainable through the physical realms. It is said that we move from physical existence into spiritual form from one life to the next until we have received the education necessary to move beyond the physical existence. Upon obtaining the complete earthly level of understanding and evolution, we continue our growth beyond this earthly realm. We do not fully understand nor are we capable of understanding this new unfolding adventure in our physical form. Meditation however can offer assistance to becoming clear, open and quiet so that we can receive inner communications. Our life’s experience takes us on the path that we are required to travel. If your midheaven, also known as the MC, is in and around 10-15 degrees Leo or Sagittarius, transiting Uranus has been making a trine to this very important angle since about May of 2013 and will continue to make this trine until about March of 2015. As Uranus closes in and goes direct (120 degrees exact), its influence will rapidly become stronger. Often times when it goes direct something will happen within the exact timeframe. This is one planet that is used when timing an influence in your Chart. If during this period, you also have other links (at least one more) that have similar ramifications to that of Uranus, especially an outer planet like Pluto contacting a planet such as the Sun, be prepared to expect the unexpected. Something will happen in the area of life connected to the midheaven, which is your career, your aspirations and perhaps your status\positon in life. If you were to call on the higher sources to help you during a time of indecision, will you always be provided with an answer? Is the higher source always by your side ready to assist at any given moment? How delicate does the problem have to be before you would be rescued? Should we be rescued from any given circumstance? Is it not important when confronted with a problem or situation that we reach deep inside in order to find a resolution to whatever the situation in front of us may be? We have the resources. We have far more strength than we realize and often we can find a solution if we take the time to look at the situation in a clear light and with a clear mind. We are more resilient than we give ourselves credit for. Often if we dig deep enough we can find the solution to most of our problems. Undoubtedly we summons our higher self to assist with these issues. We are never alone, and at times, we receive assistance without knowing. This silent resolve assists in building confidence and inner strength. If we believe that we cannot solve a given situation and are constantly asking for help, we become dependent on outside assistance. Unknown assistance along the way builds our strength and changes our confidence in ourselves. This is a good thing as our attitude is the most important life control we have. We have to fill our world with positive initiatives and motivations that provide us with the resolve to overcome anything life throws at us. There are several aspects in Astrology and one of the most infamous is the Square. The Square is an aspect which describes two planets or significant points in the Natal chart which are separated by 90 degrees. The degree of orb varies by individual Astrologers but suffice to say that its influence can be felt up to 10degrees, either separating or applying. This means, that depending on the planets in aspect, the effects of this Square are felt from about 80 degrees apply to about 100 degrees separating. Holm Astrology uses a tighter orb of up to 8 degrees (82-98) and when deciphering a Natal chart uses a much tighter orb. The square is considered an aspect of stress and is often accompanied with obstacles and challenging conditions. The square is considered a dynamic aspect and often produces considerable tension which must be released or overcome. As a result, the square forces us to make changes to conditions and stimulates action which is required in order for the individual in question to move forward. Squares act as building blocks to growth and although they are considered difficult in their nature, the challenging circumstances created by the square forces the individual to reconsider the situations that they are in and then forces them to act. People with a many squares in their Birth chart are often faced with difficulties in their life, especially in their early years as they become acquainted with the stresses that the Square can create. As these birth aspects become activated through transit and progression, they are forced to act in ways to alleviate these conditions present in their Birth chart. They eventually become proficient at handling the issues that the square represents. The closer the square aspect is to being direct (exactly 90 degrees between the planets in question) the more apparent the problem becomes and the more difficult it is to rectify the situation. Squares are challenging aspects but they build character and inner strength (unless the individual in question sits back and does nothing to circumvent the circumstances brought on by the transits and progressions). If left, the square can create fear and tension defined by the energies of the planets involved in the square. If left unattended and allowed to keep developing, the situation can turn from a small smoldering ember to a forest fire that is very difficult to extinguish. The Square if proper utilized is actually a blessing in disguise. It can push you to places of fulfillment that the softer aspects in Astrology could never do. It often takes a challenging condition in life to push us forward in our intended direction and along our evolutionary path. The Square aspect is similar in ways to the planet Saturn. Saturn can create obstacles and challenging conditions when it transits a Natal planet but its rewards for hard diligent work far outweighs any difficulty it inevitably will create. The energies must find some sort of release when the square becomes activated through transit or progression especially if one of the planets involved is an inner planet (Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus or Mars) aspected by let’s say Pluto. Squares are building blocks to evolution and stimulate us into action. As a result of the action, we are aware of our strengths and ability to overcome life’s most tedious challenges.
